In DrugBank, this term refers to a change in a drug’s effect on the body when the drug is taken with other drugs. A drug interaction can delay, reduce, or enhance the actions of a drug or cause other changes when the drugs are taken together. This can increase or decrease the action of one or all drugs or lead to adverse effects. 1

The DrugBank database includes drug interactions with negative effects resulting from drug interactions and usually does not include drug interactions with beneficial effects.

DrugBank considers [product labels] and evidence in literature when determining which drug interactions to include in the database. When possible, specific management information for a drug interaction can be obtained from drug interactions and other interactions in the database.
